Hairstyles Are A Part Of Our Personality 

Hairstyles are a big part of our everyday life. Why you may ask? Each day when we do our hair whether we do the same hairstyle each day or choose a different one; it is part of our personality.   With this in mind, how do people with one hand do their hair? Keep reading to find out.

Gaining Independence

 From the time I was a little girl, I had long curly hair and to ensure I could keep my long hair, my mom would do my hair for me each and every day. She would put my hair in braids, buns, and ponytails since this was a task that I hadn't yet figured out how to do on my own. I knew she didn't mind; she's awesome in that way, but as I got older I wanted to be more independent and find a way to do my hair on my own with my long curly hair without having to rely on my mom to do my hair for me every day.

Story Time

I am going to tell you a little story about how I learned how to do my own hair. It all started on a Monday afternoon. I had just finished my schoolwork for the day and was trying to figure out what I wanted to do.  I came up with a lot of activities I could do go for a walk, read, draw, and then learn how to pull my hair up with one hand popped into my head. At first, I  dismissed it, but it kept coming back louder and louder. I  think I was probably making my spirit guides angry that I wasn't listening to their hint. I finally listened and got on the computer and searched how to pull my hair up with one hand. On YouTube, they have a lot of different videos of really creative people who perform this skill. Hair Mishaps

 After getting some ideas offline; I started putting the tricks I learned to the test. Something to keep in mind when trying to learn how to do your hair with one hand is that you will have a bunch of crazy hair mishaps while getting used to getting your hair all in one place that you grab easily when putting it in a ponytail. On more than one occasion I looked like I had just walked through a tornado. It was quite funny actually.

Many attempts later after trying a strategy, brushing my hair out, and repeating it, I came up with an idea. I combined some of what I learned in the videos with my own ideas to create my own hairstyle.

Taking Care Of Your Hair

A lot goes into taking care of your hair. There is brushing your hair, washing your hair, and accessories. Each in which helps us keep our hair healthy and provides an easy and fun way to do your own hair while keeping it long.

           Brushing Your Hair

Brushing your is something that you have to do once a day maybe twice a day depending on your type of hair. Over the years I have found that if you use a hairbrush that doesn't pull as easily as other brushes and pull your hair to one side makes it easier to brush your hair with one hand. Also, by having your hair to one side it allows you to easily reach all layers of your hair both on top and underneath. Leaving your hair smooth and soft.

Washing Your Hair With One Hand

One of the best ways I found to wash your hair is to use Head and Shoulders 2 in 1. Not only does it have a good selection of scents that smell amazing, but it allows for you to only have to wash your hair once since it has both shampoo and conditioner in it. Something I recommend doing if you have curly hair like me is to put your hair in a ponytail after you brush and dry it to help keep from getting tangles as it finishes drying. Then you can do whatever hairstyle you want for that day.

                   Accessories 

There are so many ways that you can use accessories to style your hair in many cute ways. I personally am not one for wearing accessories, but the ones I enjoy are the colorful rubber bands, headbands soft/hard when I want to wear my hair down, and barrets which come in many different styles and colors at Walmart.  With many different accessories available to you, it makes it easy and fun to do your hair.
