Buttoning Your Pants With One Hand

Just Get Dressed;Everyone Has To Do It!

Getting dressed is something  we all have to do each day whether we like it or not. We can't just stay in our pajamas all day; although that would be nice. So how do people with one hand get dressed? Let's find out.

Story Time

I am going to share one of my favorite moments. It was a few days after my mom broke her hand roller skating with my little sister. We were all in our own rooms getting dressed to go run some errands when I hear my mom yell "Alyssa, how do you button your pants with one hand? It's impossible. "I sat there for a moment thinking how is she having a hard time buttoning her pants? All you do is put the button through the hole. Then I realized that she has always used two hands to button her pants.  I giggled and yelled out " I've been doing it my whole life. "

Types Of Pants Matter 

If there is one thing that I've learned since I started figuring out this skill is that the brand of pants you wear really does matter. Many people may not thing so, but the brand of jeans you wear determined how easy or hard it is to button.  In my experience I have found that if you get a more flexible pair of jeans like Levi's  it will be a lot easier to button than more form fitting jeans.

Sometimes You Just Need to Make Some Funny Faces 

 I will tell you that on more than one occasion I have found myself walking around in my room making funny faces while trying to button a pair of pants that were more form fitting. The jeans aren't small; they fit well until that silly button doesn't go through the hole.  Although I'm sure it would be funny for whomever whitnessed it. Any loose fitting jeans would be your best bet for a easy to button experience.

A Few Ways To Button your pants

Throughout my life I have learned a few different ways to button my pants with one hand.  The first way worked well for me when I was younger as my dad would remove the button from any pair of pants I got and replaced it with a snap button. I don't know how he did it, but it worked well. Thanks dad.  Other times I wore overalls. Not only did I look adorable in them, but they were also easy for me to pull up and down. As I got older I figured out another way that I could button my pants without removing the button. I call it the push and pull method.
