Success and Challenges
Life brings us both situations that are successful and ones that are challenging. When we look at time of success, we feel good, right? So, why don't we feel that way with challenges? Let's take a deeper look at one of my biggest challenges and how it became a successful moment.
Story Time
It was my senior year of high school, and I had already gotten all the credits I needed to graduate. During that time I was put into some electives and took two classes at Pikes Peak Community College to give me something to work on until graduation that May. All of my classes were going well besides my math class. I have always been really good at math and understood it very. That is until my instructor put our very first unit test in front of me. Then my mind went blank. I couldn't remember how to do any of the problems. Talk about test anxiety. As you can imagine I didn't pass that test. It was a bummer of course, but do you think that stopped me? No, since that first test when I got a score of 68%, I believe it was; I was determined to get a passing score on the rest of my tests as they counted as 50% of my final grade for the class. No pressure, I thought to myself as she told the class this imformation. From that point on
I made a game plan of how I would ensure that my grade on the next test was better than the last test.My Action Plan
I was really determined to accomplishing my goal of overall passing the class. So, each Monday and Wednesday since that was when my class took place I would go home and get my homework out of the way. After finishing my homework I would go online to do extra practice based on what I was learning in class. On days when my instructor handed back our graded tests I would go to see her in office after class to go over what I did wrong on the test and how I can improve on it. This was no doubt the most challenging moment in my life and that goes above everything I had to learn to do with my disability. At the end of the course all my effort paid off because I passed the class with a c+.
Take Away Message
In life you are going to have moments of success and moments that are challenging. It is a part of life. The important part is that you don't give up when faced with a challenge.
So true, Alyssa. You will always have challenges, but how you show up for them is what really counts. ❤
